Previdi System Tips

The Previdi System videos were created to help guide you through a easy to follow learning process for Doubles Tennis.  The videos on this page are directed towards the players, coaches, and doubles teams. This is a complete list of our Previdi Tips videos.  We are consistently updating our pages with new videos, so we invite you to check back often!

The Four Things That Can Happen When You're Serving

Type:  Tip
Level:  2.5 - 5.0
Participation:  None

TOPIC: Many players over complicate  what it takes to hold serve in doubles. In reality there are only four possible scenarios and you're only required to do anything (after the serve) in two of them. Watch this video as Billy explains how The Previdi System handles these four scenarios.

EFFECT ON GAME: Once you understand what it takes to hold serve, it will seem less complicated and easier to master.

Playing the Aggressive Net Player

Type:  Tip
Level:  2.5 - 5.0
Participation:  None

TOPIC: One of the main reasons players lose to aggressive net players is they get intimidated and don't hit their returns with commitment. Watch this video as Billy explains how to handle an aggressive net player.

EFFECT ON GAME: If you understand how to play against an aggressive net player, you will feel empowered rather than intimidates and realize that your fear is what's beating you, not their great shots at the net.

The Rockstar and the Accountant

Type:  Tip
Level:  2.5 - 5.0
Participation:  None

TOPIC: In The Previdi System, the best type of partner to be is one who is reliable, methodical and who sticks to the plan and the plays. We've all fantasized about being a rock star and doing outlandish things and getting a lot of attention but that's not conducive to being a good partner or to winning matches. You will be more successful if you're like an accountant; exacting, accurate and consistent. Watch this video as Matt Previdi explains this concept.

EFFECT ON GAME: If you understand that being flashy and playing high risk tennis is not conducive to winning, you're on your way to success with The Previdi System!

Using Signals When Serving

Type:  Tip
Level:  2.5 - 5.0
Participation:  None

TOPIC: In The Previdi System, we want the server's partner to call direction for the serve, much like a catcher in baseball. This will be part of an ever evolving game plan based on our strengths, their weaknesses and how the match is going.

EFFECT ON GAME: If you and your partner have a plan for service games, it will be easier to work together to hold serve. The net player will be fully engaged in the partner's service game. Even when you play with a new partner, using this and your other Previdi System principles will make it easy to play unified doubles.

USTA Lineups

Type:  Tip
Level:  2.5 - 5.0
Participation:  None

TOPIC: Creating effective lineups without alienating your players can be a challenge for USTA captains. In this Previdi System video, Billy gives you tips for creating successful lineups for your team.

EFFECT ON GAME:  Having a philosophy when creating lineups gives you your best chance of winning matches but, more importantly, keeping everyone on the team on the same page and working together for long term success and enjoyment.

Prepare For USTA Playoffs

Type:  Tip
Level:  2.5 - 5.0
Participation:  None

TOPIC: In this video, Matt gives you the do's and don'ts of how to prepare your team for the playoffs (districts, sectionals, and nationals).

EFFECT ON GAME: Proper preparation is key to success in the playoffs. Trying too hard or trying to do too much is a recipe for disaster for your team.

How to be a Great USTA Captain

Type:  Tip
Level:  2.5 - 5.0
Participation:  None

TOPIC: Being an effective USTA captain can be very challenging and stressful. Follow these steps that Billy details from The Previdi System and make yourself a more effective captain.

EFFECT ON GAME:  If you have a plan and cover all your bases, your players will follow you gladly and everyone's experience will be more enjoyable. Your team will be more successful on and off the court.

Don't Try So Hard

Type:  Tip
Level:  2.5 - 5.0
Participation:  None

TOPIC: One of the best things you can learn to do in competitive tennis is to stop trying so hard all the time. You need to get to the point where you trust your preparation and your instincts (using what you've learned in The Previdi System) and let the game come to you.

EFFECT ON GAME:  Once you've learned to let go and just play, your enjoyment of the game will go to a new level and your ability to handle all situations will be effortless.

Playing Doubles With A New Partner

Type:  Tip
Level:  2.5 - 5.0
Participation:  None

TOPIC: Playing with a new partner can be a challenge for players of all levels but if you follow The Previdi System guidelines that Matt lays out here, you're guaranteed to have everyone want to play with you.

EFFECT ON GAME:  If you create the right atmosphere and learn how to get the most out of any partner, you will put yourself in a position to enjoy the game more, help others to enjoy playing with you and get great results in your matches.

Three Cs Of Holding Serve

Type:  Tip
Level:  2.5 - 5.0
Participation:  None

TOPIC: Holding serve in doubles takes much more than trying to blow people away with big serves. Understand the three C's in The Previdi System will give you a framework for success in your service games.

EFFECT ON GAME:  If you can understand and implement the three C's you will hold serve all the time and stay focused even when your opponents are putting pressure on you. It's a recipe for success with any partner.
