Team Positioning After an Offensive Lob Return
Type: Tip
Level: 2.5 - 5.0
Participation: None
TOPIC: Once you've hit a successful offensive lob return, it's imperative that you and your partner get in the correct positions to maintain control of the point and give us the best chance of winning it. The player that hit the return becomes the new Hunter and gets slightly inside the service line. They're looking to hunt for all short weak balls and to hit overheads on lobs in their direction. If they get too close to the net they will easily be lobbed and we lose our advantage. The Helper will be stationed crosscourt from the ball and slightly behind the service line. They will reset deep balls back in front of their partner. If the opposing net player does not get back, we will look to attack them at the first opportunity. If both opponents get back, both partners are looking for balls to hit short or angle.
EFFECT ON GAME: You never want to waste a great opportunity by being out of position or not on the same page as your partner. These guidelines will help you to win a majority of the points in a situation where you have control of the point.
